Luca Tagliaferro SEO Approach:

A proven process for growing online businesses using search engine optimisation

If your organic traffic is high, but you don’t know how to grow it any further, you’ll find this useful.

This is an overview of Luca Tagliaferro’s SEO process – a systematic process which I’ll use on all of my clients:

Step 1: Define the Rules of the Game

Every engagement starts by establishing direction and alignment. We don’t touch your site until we understand your:

  • Business model and goals
  • SEO role in your wider marketing strategy
  • Current performance and benchmarks
  • Organic traffic growth targets
  • Strategic KPIs (organic sessions, impressions, CTR, rankings, indexation rate)

The goal at this stage is clarity: What does traffic growth look like for your business, and how will we measure success along the way?

Without this, you’re optimising without a goalpost.

Step 2: Analyse and Tune Existing SEO Traffic

Before building anything new, we assess what’s already driving traffic, or failing to.

We audit:

  • Which pages bring in the most (and least) traffic
  • Organic performance by URL, category, and keyword
  • Landing page bounce and exit rates
  • How organic visitors behave across your site

This helps identify:

  • Quick wins (underperforming page 1 rankings, orphan pages, traffic drop-offs)
  • Technical SEO gaps limiting visibility
  • Opportunities to double down on what’s already working

We also look at how your site is structured and whether Google is crawling and indexing content efficiently.

Step 3: Understand Your Audience (Especially Non-Traffic Pages)

To grow traffic, we need to reverse-engineer what your audience is searching for and why your pages aren’t showing up.

This includes:

  • Understanding different search intents: informational, commercial, navigational
  • Segmenting branded vs. non-branded keywords
  • Analysing content gaps and intent mismatches
  • Evaluating existing content’s ability to meet search expectations

We also use tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, and user feedback tools to identify why some pages aren’t attracting or retaining visitors.

Traffic isn’t just about ranking—it’s about being relevant to what your ideal visitors are looking for.

Step 4: Conduct Advanced SEO Market Intelligence

Here we analyse the market around you to define where the opportunity lies.

  • What keywords are competitors targeting successfully?
  • What content formats are dominating the SERPs?
  • Where are the gaps in competitor topical coverage?
  • What SERP features (snippets, People Also Ask, videos) are influencing visibility?
  • Which sites are earning backlinks, and why?

This competitive intelligence helps us understand what’s required to compete, and win, on high-volume search terms in your niche.

Step 5: Uncover Hidden SEO Assets in Your Business

Most businesses already have underutilised assets that could drive significant traffic.

We identify:

  • Existing content ranking on page 2 (quick win candidates)
  • Pages with backlinks but no keyword visibility
  • Old blog posts that can be repurposed, expanded, or consolidated
  • Content trapped in PDFs, slide decks, or gated materials
  • PR mentions with unclaimed backlinks
  • Internal linking opportunities across authority pages

This step is about squeezing more traffic from what you already have, before creating anything new.

Step 6: Build Your SEO Campaign Strategy

With a deep understanding of your current state, competitors, and audience intent, we now build your traffic-growth campaign.

Typical campaign types include:

  • New content campaigns based on high-volume keywords
  • Authority-building link campaigns
  • On-page optimisation sprints
  • Technical SEO overhauls
  • Internal linking restructures
  • Programmatic SEO (where applicable)

All initiatives are prioritised using three filters:

  1. Impact on organic traffic growth
  2. Confidence based on data and experience
  3. Ease of execution

This prevents wasted time on low-ROI tasks and gets traffic growth moving fast.

Step 7: Create or Optimise Content for Search Visibility

We create content that is designed to rank—because it aligns with search intent, structure, and quality signals that Google rewards.

This may include:

  • Long-form pillar content
  • Targeted blog posts for question-based keywords
  • Optimised service or product pages
  • FAQ and knowledge base hubs
  • Resource hubs or comparison pages

All content follows best practices for:

  • On-page SEO (headings, internal links, keyword placement)
  • SERP optimisation (titles, meta descriptions, structured data)
  • UX and readability (scannable structure, mobile performance)

We also optimise existing content for freshness, completeness, and better targeting.

Step 8: Track, Report, and Iterate

Traffic growth is measured continuously. We use:

  • Google Search Console (impressions, rankings, CTR)
  • Google Analytics 4 (traffic sources, landing page performance)
  • Rank tracking tools (SERP volatility, keyword growth)
  • Technical monitoring (crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals)

Content is reviewed regularly to identify:

  • Posts that can be updated for freshness
  • Pages that rank but don’t get clicks
  • Content that’s indexed but not ranking

SEO is not static. Iteration is a core part of long-term growth.

Step 9: Leverage SEO Wins Across Other Channels

Once we’ve built traffic and momentum, we expand those wins:

  • Use high-traffic pages to build email lists
  • Turn ranking blog content into video scripts, ads, or lead magnets
  • Use top-performing keywords in PPC campaigns
  • Share SEO-validated content in social and email campaigns
  • Adapt organic learnings into affiliate, PR, or influencer strategies

SEO becomes the engine that drives wider marketing ROI, not just a siloed channel.

Why This Process Works

Most SEO advice is built on generalised tactics. This process is built on:

  • Research before execution
  • Strategy before tactics
  • High-impact actions, not busy work
  • Data-led decision making
  • Iteration over guesswork

Because it’s methodical, repeatable, and scalable, this process has worked for brands in Local SEO, SaaS and services.

It doesn’t promise instant results. It promises sustainable growth in organic traffic, delivered by doing the right work, in the right order, for the right reasons.

If you’re serious about building organic visibility that compounds month over month, this is the process.
