7× SEO ROI in under
24 months.
G&M Direct Hire offers PCO car hire in London — a competitive, high-intent local market. A Next.js rebuild had silently destroyed their commercial page indexation. This is how we fixed it and turned it into a 7× return.
A post-redesign ranking collapse nobody had diagnosed.
G&M Direct Hire had invested in a full website redesign, migrating to a modern Next.js stack. Shortly after launch, organic rankings dropped across their most commercially valuable pages — PCO car hire listings, vehicle pages, and location-specific content.
No one had connected the dots. The site looked better. The user experience had improved. But Google was no longer reading the content that mattered.
The root cause: Next.js was defaulting to client-side rendering (BAILOUT_TO_CLIENT_SIDE_RENDERING) on key commercial pages. Googlebot was crawling shells — empty HTML containers — instead of the actual car listings. The inventory that should be driving leads was effectively invisible to search engines.
The SEO Strategy
The first step was confirming what Google was actually seeing — not what the browser rendered. Using a combination of Google Search Console URL inspection, raw HTTP fetch testing, and server-log analysis, we confirmed that Googlebot was receiving empty HTML on the car listing and vehicle category pages.
The culprit: Next.js was triggering BAILOUT_TO_CLIENT_SIDE_RENDERING on dynamic routes, meaning the car inventory content was injected by JavaScript after the initial page load — after Googlebot had already moved on.
Findings documented:
- All dynamic car listing pages failing server-side render
- Google cache showing blank content on commercial pages
- Crawl budget being wasted on empty shells
- Internal link equity flowing to unindexed pages
Once indexation was restored, the next layer of problems became visible: the site’s commercial architecture had significant cannibalisation issues. Multiple pages were competing for the same PCO hire queries without clear hierarchy or differentiation.
We rebuilt the commercial page structure from the ground up:
- Defined a clear URL taxonomy for vehicle categories, makes, and models
- Consolidated cannibalising pages with canonical tags and redirects
- Rebuilt internal linking to flow authority to commercial pages
- Created dedicated landing pages for high-intent PCO queries
- Implemented breadcrumb schema across all listing pages
PCO car hire is a local search product. Drivers looking for a hire vehicle are searching with location intent — “PCO car hire East London”, “Toyota Prius hire South London”. Capturing this demand required a dedicated local content strategy.
We built out a network of location-specific landing pages covering London’s key PCO driver hotspots — each optimised for borough-level queries with genuine content differentiation, not thin duplicate templates.
- Location pages for all major London boroughs and zones
- Google Business Profile optimised with PCO-specific categories
- Local citation building across automotive and transport directories
- Review generation strategy targeting post-hire touchpoints
- LocalBusiness and Vehicle schema implemented across all pages
PCO hire has a structured keyword funnel — from awareness (what is PCO hire) through consideration (PCO hire vs lease) to high-intent commercial (PCO Toyota Prius weekly hire London). We mapped content to each stage.
- High-intent vehicle + hire + location combinations
- Comparison content (PCO hire vs. lease vs. ownership)
- Informational content for new PCO drivers (licensing, costs)
- FAQ content targeting featured snippet positions
- Optimised title tags and meta descriptions for CTR uplift
Each content piece was directly tied to a conversion path — quote request, call, or WhatsApp enquiry — ensuring organic traffic translated into measurable revenue, not just sessions.
The Results.
